My work explores the essence of Black manhood, rooted in my experiences growing up in Jamaica amid economic hardship. — Andrae Green
Andrae Green is a Jamaican-born artist from Kingston who lives and works in Avon, Connecticut. Early exposure to Marvel and DC comic books sparked his interest in visual storytelling, speculative fiction, and imaginative world-building. Growing up amid economic hardship, social upheaval, and violence, he found refuge in art, education, and faith, experiences that continue to shape his practice.
 
His paintings examine family, memory, vulnerability, resilience, and the Black body. He combines Judeo-Christian symbolism, speculative fiction, figurative abstraction, and layered material surfaces to create psychologically charged works that move beyond linear narrative. His work explores hope, desire, healing, and existential questions while emphasizing the transformative potential of human experience.
 
Green earned a BFA from the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts and an MFA from the New York Academy of Art. He is Assistant Professor of Painting and Drawing at the Hartford Art School, University of Hartford. His work has been exhibited internationally, including at the Beijing International Art Biennale, the National Gallery of Jamaica, NADA New York, and the Art Complex Museum, which acquired his painting Chasing Paradise for its permanent collection.
