Dr. Imo Nse Imeh (b. 1980) is an American visual artist and art historian with family roots in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. A Professor of Art and Art History at Westfield State University, he earned his BA from Columbia University and his PhD in the History of African Art from Yale University. His research and studio practice examine African and African Diaspora visual culture, with a focus on ritual, belief, cultural memory, and the human figure. Working in drawing, painting, and mixed media, he creates environments that investigate spirituality, emotion, and cultural identity.
Imeh has exhibited in museums and cultural institutions across the United States, including recent shows at Maison Lune for Frieze Los Angeles, the August Wilson African American Cultural Center, and the University Museum of Contemporary Art in Amherst. His work is held in the Petrucci Family Foundation Collection of African American Art and other collections, and has been featured by major media outlets. He has received awards from various cultural councils.
