The wood this piece rests on is not a found object without history. It comes from a bobbin rack, from the same loom that elsewhere in my work left behind its punch cards. Here too, then, a fragment of a system that once carried movement, let thread run, kept rhythm, now only a carrier for something that no longer moves itself.

The feather does not rest beside the pin, but is guided through it, held at the narrowest point of the metal. Not a gesture of force, but of surrender: the lightest material, held by the smallest possible point of support. There is no ink, no line, no word that follows, only a pen that has set down its task, in a silence that carries weight without being heavy.

I made this piece during a time when ideas simply stopped coming. Not a slow fading, but a sudden halt, the kind any maker recognizes: the tools are there, the material is ready, and still nothing moves forward. This object holds that moment rather than resolving it. It does not explain the block or find a way through it. It just lets it stand, quietly, as something worth keeping. — Marinda Vandenheede
