We are delighted to announce the book launch of Tashi Brauen on April 24th at our gallery space. Since 2017, we have regularly collaborated with the artist, and we are thrilled to present Hold On, Tashi Brauen’s first work catalog, which looks back on his artistic journey over the last 15 years.
His work is a continuous process that blends installation, photography, collage, and painting, with a preference for minimalist forms, surfaces, and colors. Brauen’s artistic practice is characterized by the interplay of meticulous planning and spontaneous impulses. He establishes clear structures only to deliberately disrupt them through experimental processes, often in collaboration with other artists. His focus lies in the staging of spaces and objects, which he captures photographically. Everyday objects arranged into installations create dynamic fields of tension through light and shadow.
Brauen’s works engage with art history and balance opposing elements, such as chance and control, organic and geometric, and are marked by vibrant colors. His Tibetan-Swiss heritage and his upbringing in an artistic-spiritual environment subtly influence his work. Brauen draws inspiration from Western artists like Hans Arp, Ellsworth Kelly, and Barnett Newman, as well as Zurich Concrete Art
Without narrative or metaphorical references, Brauen’s work invites an experience of the present moment, like the Buddhist concept of emptiness—an open, alert, and conscious perception.
Brauen views art as a means of connecting people and fostering the potential for deeper
understanding. Brauen lives in Zurich, Switzerland, and has exhibited internationally, including solo shows in Zurich, Basel, Berlin, Munich, and Bangkok. He has also participated in numerous group exhibitions across Europe and the USA. His works are held in several Swiss public art collections, including the Canton of Zurich, Canton of Berne, Wettingen Art Collection, as well as in The Luciano Benetton Art Collection, Treviso, Italy, and private collections worldwide.
Brauen was awarded a prestigious promotional grant from UBS Bank of Switzerland. In 2023.
