FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ronewa Art Projects Presents "Membranes" by Serbian Artist Saša Pančiċ

BERLIN - Ronewa Art Projects is delighted to announce the upcoming solo exhibition of Serbian artist Saša Pančiċ, titled "Membranes." The exhibition will open on Thursday, November 16, 2023, from 18:00 to 20:00 and run until Thursday, December 21, 2023. The exhibition will feature three distinct series of ink drawings: "Semantic Shadows," "Liminality," and "Beyond the Horizon."

"Membranes" is a profound exploration of the concept of membranes as selective barriers that define and protect, both physically and symbolically. In this exhibition, Saša Pančiċ challenges viewers to contemplate the hidden layers of reality within his drawings. His work transcends mere representation, delving into the depths of perception, bridging the divide between external and internal, physical and psychological, historical and super- historical.

Pančiċ's ink drawings display organic, gestural brushstrokes, evoking a sense of immediacy and depth reduction. While some may draw comparisons to artists like Suisen Nakatani and Ellsworth Kelly, Pančiċ's work maintains a dual stylistic tension that is uniquely his own. Influenced by artists such as the Gutai group, Robert Motherwell, and others, Pančiċ's art embodies the energy and hypnotic power of Action painting.

The front side of Pančiċ's ink drawings bear a red ink stamp, his initials, and the number 23. These markings are a nod to the historical use of black, white, and red in Chinese and Japanese calligraphy, the avant-garde, and the Bauhaus. The red seal, with the artist's initials and the year, serves as the artist's unique archival convention, completing each drawing's narrative.

The exhibition comprises three distinct series of monochromatic ink on-paper drawings: "Semantic Shadows," "Beyond the Horizon," and "Liminality." Collectively, they explore the concept of "Membranes," representing fluid, unifying spaces from which the physical world emerges. Pančiċ's choice of paper - Fabriano cotton paper, silk paper, and handmade Japanese Mashi paper - partly influenced the distinct naming of the drawings.

Since starting his artistic career in 1992, Saša Pančiċ has shown versatility in his artistry, encompassing painting, sculpture, and art videos. Throughout this multidisciplinary trajectory, he has steadfastly maintained the core of his artistic vision while actively investigating diverse mediums and materials of expression. This adaptability extends to his skillful navigation of the digital landscapes intrinsic to our contemporary visual culture.

Do not miss the opportunity to immerse yourself in the thought-provoking world of Saša Pančiċ’s "Membranes" at Ronewa Art Projects. Join us at the gallery opening on Thursday, November 16, 2023, between 18:00 - 20:00 to experience the intricate layers of reality as seen through the eyes of this accomplished Serbian artist.
